As per the forum rules, we need a verifiable source for the problem before we can deal with this question. If the question is not one of ours or one that is copyright-free, we will have to delete the question..

And learn to use the "w" key on your keyboard!

Seems like only I have to work as peacekeeper everywhere. (At Home, office and GMAT) :-) (just kidding)

C is the correct answer.

In C it is clear that two events happened 'riding the wave' and 'coming to rest' but that doesn't mean both happened at the same time. Both these events are close but not 100% happening at same time.

On the other hand the usage of "WHILE" in option B makes it opposite of option C. WHILE means 'at the same time'.

Now, with the usage of WHILE, option B becomes illogical and says that 'riding the wave' and 'coming to rest' happened at the same time.

You are welcome. :)

And I hope you get it. I think, I should have given an example for option C. (even to clarify my thinking)

in case you need it here it is...

I went to the Tesco mall and purchased chocolates.

Now, you can say, 2 things happened i.e. 'went' and 'purchased' but both happened in sequence. i.e. there would be a time-gap, no matter how less.

[now, I am clear with my thought process :) was thinking about it since my last post] Hope I am right.

Does ''rode on the crest of a tsunami '' modify norther Chile or does it jump and modify USS Wateree?

"Rode" is a verb. Verbs don't "modify" things, since they aren't modifiers.

Excuse me. I can get the right answer. But would u pls clarify whether 'anchored in the harbor of Arica' modify 'Wateree' or be parallel to ' rode...and came..'. It seems to me that the comma is unnecessary in either case. Thanks in advance.
