Parallelism in modifiers

by me.sumit.21may Mon Apr 07, 2014 2:51 pm

First discovered more than 30 years ago, Lina's sunbird, a four-and-a-half-inch animal found in the Philippines and that resembles a hummingbird, has shimmering metallic colors on its head; a brilliant orange patch, bordered with red tufts, in the center of its breast; and a red eye.

i came across this sentence while browsing for GMAT verbal. My question is if above sentence is rewritten as :-

First discovered more than 30 years ago, Lina's sunbird, a four-and-a-half-inch animal that is found in the Philippines, resembling a hummingbird, has shimmering metallic colors on its head; a brilliant orange patch, bordered with red tufts, in the center of its breast; and a red eye.

Is this sentence correct???

My doubt is whether modifiers need to parallel. i dont see a parallelism marker here.
Secondly do we need AND if there are many modifiers for a same subject.??

Please read the forum rules before posting; you're actually breaking three of those rules here.

* We need the original source of the problem.

* If the sentence comes from a GMAT-related source, we need the entire original text of the problem, with all answer choices.

* The title of the thread should consist of the first few words of the problem text.

Thanks.
