Past perfect or simple past

Which one of the following is correct?

1. Veronica traveled all over the world in 2007.
OR
2. Veronica had traveled all over the world in 2007.

Please explain.

It should be Veronica traveled and not had traveled. "had" comes when there are 2 events that occurred in the past and you wanna show one event occurred before other.

thapliyalabhi is 100% correct on this. You would need to have some other past event in order for "had" to be warranted:

Veronica had traveled all over the world in 2007 before she got married in 2008.

Even in this sentence "had" isn't 100% necessary, since there are dates to give us reference. "had" would be necessary without the dates though to express which event happened first:

Veronica had traveled all over the world before she got married.
