by kramacha1979 Sat Jun 06, 2009 10:38 am

In the Odds and Ends section on Pg 226, the example says
' New data from ... indicate.'

Is Data considered plural or singular ?

New data indicates or New data indicate ? ...

great question! Technically, "datum" is singular and "data" is plural. Nobody ever uses "datum" though. :)

It's pretty common now to use "data" only - whether singular or plural - but we should technically use "datum" or "data point" when we are only talking about one (singular) piece of data.
