Please assess my chances at UMCP, Smith@MD and Georgetown@DC

by shantanu6 Wed Aug 28, 2013 7:01 pm

Hello ,
I just wrote my gmat today and scored a 650(49Q,29V)
I had taken gmat in 2011 June and had gotten a 660 49 Q(86%), 31 V(58%) score earlier.
Will my 660 still apply?

I have about 6 years of experience in IT. I have 4 years of experience in leading my team of 5 resources.
I have 3.4 gpa in undergraduate. I also have a MS in Computer Engg. from Univ of Maryland Baltimore County where I have 3.2 gpa? Should I include this too?
I am also a writer of some repute, ie.a I have two publications.

I am aiming for Smith at MD or McDonogh Georgetown for MBA in Information systems.

Can you please assess my chances.

Thanks

Hi there,

Thanks for your post. Schools will take the highest score, yes, so the 660 still applies.

With an IT background and an interest in the MBA, you will need to work hard on your applications to demonstrate that you have more than just technical skill, and to show areas where you've had leadership, management, teamwork and other similar experiences, and where you've gone above and beyond your role and responsibilities.

Also since you do have a masters degree (and yes academically speaking that is a plus and you'll include), you also want to make sure you confidently make the case that you do still NEED the MBA degree as well. You'll need to demonstrate a clear career path and why you are applying.

If you are able to do what I mentioned and put together a strong application, you would have a potential show at the schools you listed, though a higher GMAT would also help!

Good luck to you on the process!
