by shantanu.shukla1983 Sat Jun 18, 2011 9:39 pm

Hello,
i just got a 660 49 Q, 31 V score on GMAT.

I have 3.4 gpa in undergraduate. 5 years of IT experience, I am also a writer of some repute, ie.a I have two publications.

I am aiming for Smith at MD or McDonogh Georgetown or Stern NY for MBA in Information systems.

Please assess my chances.

thanks

I also have a MS from Univ of Maryland Baltimore County where I have 3.2 gpa? Should I include this too?

Thanks a lot

Hi Shantanu

Thanks for writing in. Yes you should definitely mention your MS is part of your academic experience and should factor into why you are seeking an MBA -- what does the MBA provide that the MS cannot?

While your score is range for Maryland it is a bit unbalanced, so you'll want to make sure your essays are clean and clear in order to show your Verbal skills. I would rate you competitive for Maryland, near-reach for Georgetown, and reach for NYU.

Best of luck,

Thanks. I recieved my AWA, got a 5 out of 6.

Would you recommend taking gmat again if I feel I can only go upto 700-710 from 660, if I am looking for smith, georgetown or Stern?
i will so appreciate a frank assessment.

Thanks a lot

Hi Shantanu,

If your goal is Stern than a 700 will make your profile a lot more competitive. While it will obviously help you somewhat at the other schools, your GMAT is more in range there, especially for Maryland. Of course a higher score will help you across the board so you can only benefit if you're confident it will go up.

Best of luck!
