Please explain usage of "Although"

Hi All,

I have been doing some practice and stuck with understanding the usage of "Although".

From what i understand "Although" is used to show two actions of condiotions of contradiction or opposite effect.

Ex: Although A secured a 80 percentile in the exam, he will get through selection based on his X,Y,Z.

Here i see that both the conditions being explained belong to a person A.

I have seen another usage of "Although", which goes like this:

Although A secured an 80 percentile in the exam, selection will be based on P,Q,R.

Here the contradictory action is not based on something related to A, but some external element.

Please help me understand if my understanding is correct or i am imagining too much :D

Also could someone explain Difference between Eventhough and although, usage of eventhough.

This is my take on it.

Eventhough is mostly used when the action is negative, but the result is positive.

for example- Even though she did not study, she did well in the exams.

Although is used when the action is positive and the result is negative.

For example- Although Mike eats healthy, he falls sick often.

"although" is generally used to show a contrast. there is no requirement that a particular half be negative and a particular half be positive; it could go in either direction..
