Please Help on SC

by manhattanmani Mon Jul 30, 2012 2:59 pm

I am using Manhattan SC book for preparing toward my GMAT SC.
I really learned a lot from this book but when it comes to the application, in tests, if earlier i was doing 3 right out of 10, now its 5 out of 10.
Am i going wrong in using the book? Could anyone help in sorting out my problem with SC. I am not a native English speaker.

Quick note: make sure you are posting in the proper thread. This is a General Verbal question.

As for your question, keep in mind that even 700 level students get more than just a few questions wrong on test day. You are taking a computer adaptive test, so if the computer thinks you are doing well, it's going to make the questions more and more difficult.

That said, I'm glad you are seeing some improvement in SC, but improving in SC doesn't always come from doing more questions and getting more right, but learning from questions that you get wrong and being better able to identify why 4 answer choices are wrong.

Here's a goal for you: go through the first 5 SC questions in the Official Guide and see if you can find 1-2 things wrong with each of the four answer choices. This shows that you not only know what the correct answer is, but WHY the other four can't be correct. Keep doing this for the questions you get wrong later in the book. If you're getting 5 out of 10 wrong in your studying now, that means you have 5 questions that you want to make sure to review 3-5 times until you can identify those mistakes and know why the answer you selected is incorrect. You'll be much more prepared for identifying these same types of mistakes on test day.
