Profile Evaluation - Darden School

by buddiesforarjun Fri Feb 19, 2010 4:02 pm

Hi,
I graduated at the top of my class from a Canadian business school (undergraduate) with a GPA of 4.0.

During my undergraduate degree, I served as the Vice President of our student body and as captain of a provincial team to a national business competition. I represented my university in many national and international business case competitions and served on many student committees. I won numerous awards for my extra curricular leadership and community involvement. I was also a teaching assistant for various courses. I have 10 months of internship experience.

I recently wrote the GMAT and received the following scores:

1. Overall: 710 (92%)
2. Quant: 49 (88%)
3. Verbal: 38 (78%)
4. AWA: 5.5 (76%)

My target schools is the Darden School at UVA.

Thank you for your guidance

Sincerely,
Arjun Singh

Hi Arjun,

Thank you for your inquiry. I assume that you’re asking for help to determine how competitive you are for Darden. You seem to have good grades, both from college and the GMAT, as well as significant leadership in college. One question I have for you is when you graduated. The only work experience you listed was internship experience. This is a big question for me and will help me provide you feedback on your competitiveness for Darden. I’d also like to know what you have been doing since you graduated, whenever that was.

Sincerely,

Akiba Smith-Francis

Hi Akiba,
Thanks for your reply. I graduated this past December and I took two months off in order to travel. I would also like to assess my competitiveness for the London Business School.

Thanks,
Arjun

Hi Arjun,

Thanks for providing more information. Assuming that you are interested in applying for the first round deadline for a fall 2011 start date, I think that you might want to do something productive with your time over the next six or so months. You may have a better chance with an American school like Darden since European schools tend to have a higher average age and tend to like to see full time work experience. However, you seem to have great grades and leadership experience, so if you are really eager to apply, you might consider applying in the fall (for round 1 deadlines), knowing that you may not be accepted. But, you will have a lot more to say in a later application once you start working full time.

Sincerely,

Akiba Smith-Francis
