Profile Evaluation for Top 5

by kiranl Wed Jan 06, 2010 10:25 am

Hi everyone,

Just discovered this forum after taking the mGMAT class, and would much appreciate a profile evaluation, and perhaps recommendations on how to strengthen my eventual application. I am primarily looking at Harvard, UPenn, Northwestern, MIT and Stanford. Would also send in apps to Berkeley and Chicago.

Undergrad: Top 20 university (US)
GPA: 3.83, Bachelors in Business Administration. Minor in economics.
GMAT: 720 (Q48/83%, V41/92%)
Work Experience: Will have 2 years at a reputable, well-known consulting company before matriculation (not McKinsey/Bain/BCG, but close)
Internships at two Fortune 100 companies during college summers.
Other: President of a student organization in college. Econ honor society.

My main concern is the low amount of work experience I have. Will only having 2 years hurt me? I realize I am looking at very tough schools, so would appreciate an honest opinion.

Thanks for your question. Two years of work experience is not necesarilly a negative, especially given that schools like Harvard are accepting younger candidates. Your leadership/impact during college and in your current job will be very important.

You have leadership experience from your college days, but it is relatively light. I would also need to know more about your current leadership experiences (both professionally and in your community) and your personal story to determine your competitiveness. Based on what you've provided, I believe that Harvard/Stanford/Wharton will be out of range and the other programs will be reaches. Not impossible though.
