Hi,
I am a married female from India. I have pretty good acads (I was always among the top 5 (many times topper) during school and graduate studies). I have done by bachelor's in Electronics with Honors. I have 5.5 years of work ex (IT). Have worked with Infosys for 5 years and now at IBM. I have also worked in Wipro BPO for voice support services for Microsoft for about 5 months. I have stayed and worked in the US (for Anthem) for about 18 months. I don't have much extras except that I write poems and that I have written 65 of them till date. I took GMAT on 1st Sep and scored 690. I am looking for 1 year full time MBA courses (General Management) in US or Europe. What are my chances at -
- INSEAD
- OXFORD
- Darden (VA)
- Haas (UCB)
- Ross (Michigan)
- Kellogg
Is the average salary for a 2 yr course comparable to that of a 1 yr course from similar college?
Is it okay to go with an MBA consulation firm? Do B-schools ask about how we prepare our essays or about any help we took from a professional? If yes, then does it hurt to say that we did?

Thanks for writing in. It can be tough for Indian candidates with IT backgrounds to stand out since that pool is usually quite large, so make sure you are differentiating yourself with clear post-MBA goals and demonstrating cultural fit at each school.
1) The schools you listed are all highly-ranked and based on the limited information I have, appear to be reach schools. You may want to pick 2-3 of them to apply, and then diversify your chances with some other schools.
2) The career office at every program can provide you with the aggregate salary information of its graduates, so you can easily compare programs that way.
3) As an MBA Mission consultant I think consultation firms provided a great value! You may have to sign something asserting that your work is entirely yours, but a consultation service should be advising you, not writing your application for you.
