Profile Evaluation--Indian Male 740

by ArunavaG680 Wed May 14, 2014 10:47 am

Hi I am an Indian Male -30 years old. GMAT Score 740 ( Q49 V 41 AWA 4.5 IR 6 ) I have 8.5 years of work experience in IT Software sales. I have worked with the leading IT organizations ( fortune 500 companies like Hewlett Packard , SAP) handling Enterprise B2B Sales. I am looking for a full time MBA

I am qualified as a B Tech Software Engineer. However my academic record is strictly average. Not sure of GPA as Indian Universities do not follow GPA system.

My concerns are:

1. Is this profile good enough for school like Cornell.
2. Should I look for options in Asia like NUS Singapore.
3. Will the low IR and AWA score be a deal breaker.

Hi there,

Thanks for posting, actually just answered this in another board, pasting below. ;)

Hi there,

Thanks for posting, and for pointing out that while your degree is in software engineering, you stand out from the crowd of Indian IT applicants in that your career has been in sales. ;) I'm sure you are still able to use some of your undergrad background to help the success of your career in sales!

Solid GMAT, sounds like average academics... I am not sure of a) your leadership experiences/strength, b) any extracurricular and community activities, and c) more info on accomplishments and impact, professionally and personally. But likely you'd have a solid shot outside approx the top 10 or so US. If you had your heart set on a top 10 school and wanted to give it a shot and put together amazing essays and stories etc, I would say go for it, but better chances are likely 10-25-ish (all approx, fyi). I wouldn't worry too much about the AWA and IR you've listed here at this point. Focus on what you can still change-- namely your essays, and to a lesser extent, your recommendations. Let us know how we can help, good luck!
