Profile Evaluation please

by saxena.ankur Mon Sep 13, 2010 5:40 pm

Hi,

I am an MBA school applicant applying to MIT as an international student in round 1 this fall. I graduated from Georgia Institute of Technology with a gpa of 3.6 (high honors) and have been working in management consulting for Deloitte Consulting (in US) for the past 3 years. I demonstrated exceptional work success while at Deloitte and have also held leadership roles in many community service events. However, my GMAT score is low 660 (Q49, V30) with an AWA score of 6. Since my score falls outside MIT's published 80% range of GMAT scores for 2010, I am wondering if I should retake the GMAT. I would really appreciate any feedback or recommendations.

Thanks,

Hi Saxena.Ankur,

Thanks for writing in. From the limited information I know about you, it does seem that you have some potentially good work experience and examples of extracurricular service you can write about. In that case, your main weakness in applying to MIT could likely be your GMAT score. If your practice exams suggest a higher score is within reach, you may want to consider retaking the test.

Best of luck,
Daniel Richards
