PROFILE EVALUATION REQUEST FOR ISB

by ANKITM638 Tue Sep 09, 2014 9:39 am

Hi

I gave my Gmat today and scored 710 (q50, V35).

A brief about my profile is as follows:

Nationality : Indian

Academic Background:

10th : 86.4%

12th :88.8 %

BE( Mechanical Engineering ) : CGPA 9.2/10

Work Ex: presently 3 years 4 month , working as an automotive design engineer (Body Systems) in an automotive OEM in india

Extra circular activities: Event head for various events in college technical fest, Part of Organizing team as industry volunteer of events organised by SAE India .

Targeted Schools : ISB India. i am not targeting any overseas school as i plan to settle in India itself.

I will be applying in round 2 of ISB Class of 2016 admissions.

Given that gmat score tend to be on the higher side in round 2 what are the my chances with the gmat score of 710 and the above profile. ( ofcourse i need to submit strong app)

Also what are the chances of getting a scholarship at ISB with this GMAT score and the past academic performance.

i would like to get a scholarship ( partial wavers )

Also my score on verbal was below expectation. based on my performane in my mock test results i was expecting somewhere near to 39.

Considering all above shall i write gmat again or 710 together with my academic performance in graduation will help me get that hallowed interview call and to some extent will make eligible for the scholarship.

Regards
Ankit

Hi there,

Thanks for posting. While the GMAT is respectable, it will be lower than the average of similarly qualified applicants, so if you are considering a re-take it's not a bad idea. Right now your profile sounds very similar to a LOT of other applicants.... spend some time thinking about what you feel helps you stand out or differentiate from those of a similar profile-- unique experiences? character traits? interests/passions? goals? What makes you, YOU??

You'll really need to nail that, as well as nail the WHY-- why do you want this degree? Why is now the right time? Why is ISB the right place for you? To be considered.

Good luck on the process!

Hi Jennifer

Thanks for your reply.

i understand i need to work on my profile to make it stand out.

Can you also throw some light on the scholarship part of my query. i understand ISB offers 100 partial fee waivers based on Merit. if i decide to retake what is the gmat score that i should target to increase my chances of getting the scholarship.
does merit in merit based scholarship is based on gmat score only or does it count other factors also.

Also one more query : Is it a good idea to apply with this gmat score and a strong profile ( after due analysis ) and see how it goes and if it does not go well then consider retaking the exam and improving the score for reapplication.

How do the adcoms view reapplicants. Does that decrease your chances of admissions

I am thinking this because though i am considering retaking but i donot know whether i will be able to improve.

Thanks a lot in advance.!!

Hi Ankit,

Let's see... with regard to scholarships, yes they are often driven a lot by GMAT, and also prior academic and professional performance.... overall outstanding applicants for the most part. To be honest most b-school students pay for the degree with educational loans, if not their own funds, paid back over time with the post-MBA salary.

Re-applying as a back-up plan is always an option; it's debatable but in general if you do a good job re-applying by showing what's changed since last time and re-affirming your commitment to that school, it can be viewed positively.

Hope that helps!
