Profile Evaluation Request

by vkrmjadhav Thu Sep 06, 2012 12:52 am

Hello,

I recently appeared for GMAT and obtained a score of 650 (Q49, V31).

Professional Highlights -
1. Bachelor of Engineering from a reputed school within University of Mumbai. (GPA - 3.6/4.0, 76% - Ranked 9 in the college)
2. Masters of Science in Information Systems from reputed US University (GPA 3.63/4)
3. 1 yr experience in an IT Services firm in India.
4. 4+ yrs of professional experience within US in the financial services domain in capacity of BA.

a) Also, I would appreciate some feedback on what could be the target schools for such a profile?
b) What would happen, if I decide to reappear for GMAT and land up getting lower score?

Hi there,

It's great that you moved into a business analyst role and out of the Indian male IT demographic! This will help you quite a bit. Unfortunately, though, your GMAT score is fairly low and I do not see any mention of community and/or extracurricular activities. I think given your current profile, you should be targeting schools at the lower end of Tier 1 (e.g., Emory, UT Austin - McCombs, Texas A&M) or top of Tier 2 (e.g., Georgetown, Boston University, etc.).

If you were to retake the GMAT and score lower, it wouldn't hurt you. The admissions committees only consider your highest score.

Good luck,
Mili

Hi Mili,

Thanks a lot for your response. I appeared for the GMAT again and the score improved marginally from 650 to 680 (Q49, V33). Does this improve my prospects?

One last question. Is my score and my profile good enough for the Top 15 B schools if I think about Part Time MBA programs?

Community and extra-curricular activities are few and far in between and include -
1. Marketing & communications lead for the Diversity Committee within the firm (promoting different cultures and charitable community events)
2. Awarded scholarship during the Masters Program.
3. Some sports activities and helping children at a local library with their studies.

That's a pretty decent improvement, congrats! I'd say it does improve your chances a bit - I would still include that range of schools on your list, but maybe you could add one higher ranked program to the list like Darden.

Good luck!
Mili
