Profile Evaluation

by devita2 Wed Oct 05, 2011 12:58 pm

First off, thank you for taking the time to look over my post. To be honest, reading others profiles scares the hell out of me...I feel so generic.

I successfully bombed my GMAT today with a 690. (46Q 39V)

Graduated from Sacred Heart University. GPA: 3.87 Summa Cum Laude. Double major in Business Economics and Business Administration with a concentration in Management.

I volunteer at Make a Wish foundation.

For the past fours years I have been working with a team of financial advisors helping manage close to $1 billion in assets. I do mainly admin work with a lot of client contact...which of course I will shy away from outright admitted on the apps.

The entire reason I am working towards my MBA is because I am in a dead end job and for the past year, everywhere I have applied, they either require I have an MBA from a top tier university or expect me to have years worth of experience in a particular field...experience which I can't obtain because I don't have an MBA.

I would love to go to Cornell, NYU or Columbia Full Time. Wondering your thoughts. Would I be better allocating my resources to procure a more impressive role or should I just apply as is?

TIA

Hi Tia,

Thanks for writing in - while I encourage you to craft your story a bit more -- " a dead end job" is not a good reason to answer "why do you want an MBA!", but a 690 does not preclude you from applying to these schools. In fact it is right at the median for Cornell! At this point you can spend your time focusing on cradting your essays and profile, which are also major parts of the application, just like the GMAT.

Best of luck,

Daniel Richards
