by aadi72 Sun Oct 14, 2012 10:03 am

Hi,

Could you please suggest which B-schools I can apply for and what GMAT score will be required for that?

My profile is as mentioned below
GPA 3.0(Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering, 2010)

I have full time work experience of 2+ years at HSBC Software development India as a Business Analyst. Before joining HSBC I have worked with Atrysis systems Pvt. Ltd. as a Software Engineer. And I have achieved a performance rating of excellent - good throughout.

I have completed few Finance related certification courses conducted by NSE (National Stock Exchange of India)
I have done quite a few internal training's in HSBC related to Finance and Business Analysis

In my college days I was a part of our college Student's council as the Chairman. We have organised many events under the council banner. I have also lead our college team participating in Inter-college competitions as a chief coordinator. I have myself participated few competitions like Business Idea presentation and got prizes in the same.

I want to peruse my career in Finance.

Hello,

Thanks for sharing your profile. It's difficult to say what programs you should apply for without knowing your interests and the kind of school you are looking for. As you are probably aware, you fall into the Indian Male IT professional demographic, and therefore it is a bit harder to get into top business schools unless you have a strong way of differentiating yourself.

Your professional experience is very technical in nature, and unfortunately, this career path does not lend itself to as much business and/or leadership exposure as other fields do, so that may be a weakness in your application. As for academics, it's tough to say in the absence of your GMAT score, but your GPA seems quite low (this could just be a conversion issue, anything 70% or above would be pretty average for your peer group). I don't see anything really differentiating in the way of community/extracurriculars, so again, that will be a gap.

So, while I can't recommend specific schools, I would say that if you can achieve a really strong GMAT score, it would greatly strengthen your profile. In the absence of that, I'd say that you should be looking at Tier 2 programs that match your interests.

All the best,
Mili
