1. Should I take the GMAT again?
My restrictions being:
My work does not allow a lot of leaves and enough time to study
is taking the GMAT 3 times, too many times?

2. Do you think 2 years of work experience would help in making a strong profile.? I wish to persue an MBA in HR or Organisational behaviour or Marketing only.

what else would help me build my profile? I wish to enroll for fall 2014. Which dream colleges could i give a shot?

3. Which colleges are the Best for their HR/ OB courses
what are my chances at making through Cornell/ UCLA/ Booth?

Thanks
Harmeet

Hello Harmeet,

Thanks for sharing such a detailed profile. Let's break it down:

Academics: Looks like you have strong undergrad grades but a slightly low GMAT score. For top programs like Booth, you'd likely need to boost your GMAT to be above a 700. What was the percentile breakdown on your quant and verbal sections? Taking the GMAT three times is not necessarily too many, as long as you are showing real improvement each time. If you feel confident that you could boost your score by 20+ points by retaking the exam, I'd encourage you to do so.

Professional Experience: Your professional background is unique - not too many candidates apply with HR backgrounds. So, I think this positions you well. Amazon is a great company, so that is a plus, too. However, two years is not a lot of experience, and by the time you apply, you'd have only one year's worth of experience to write about. I think this will be a major disadvantage. I'd encourage you to gain 1-2 more years of work experience before applying.

Community: Looks like you are very involved in nonprofits/NGOs and have made significant contributions to these organizations. Keep it up, and continue to take on more leadership roles within them. The more consistency and growth you can show, the better.

Extracurriculars: I don't see a lot on this front, so if you do wait to apply, I'd encourage you to get involved in some outside activities (sports, music, dance, arts... whatever you are passionate about!).

If you do proceed to apply this year, I think Booth will be unlikely with current scores and experience level. Cornell and UCLA would be reach programs, but you could definitely try. I would target programs like Vanderbilt, USC, Purdue, Michigan State -- these are programs that have strong HR management MBAs but are more in reach for your profile.

Best of luck,
Mili
