Profile Evaluation

by NGL Sat Jul 06, 2013 7:24 pm

Hi, I'd love your feedback on my profile and any insight on the schools at which I'll be a competitive applicant.

Will have 4 years work experience at matriculation
3.0 GPA from Ivy League school
GMAT 730 (Q44, V46)
Under-represented minority, female

Currently work at intersection of business and education and hope to stay in field long-term. Have had steady increases in responsibility and one promotion thus far.

Internships throughout college and some other minor extracurricular activities.
Since graduating from undergrad, I've spent time volunteering, but no major activities.

Do you think I'll be a competitive applicant at any of the following schools?:
- HBS, Kellogg, Tuck, Yale

Hi there,

Thanks for posting and congrats on your excellent GMAT score. Based on the info your provided, yes I think you have a chance at the schools you listed, with HBS being the toughest reach but not impossible, and Tuck and Yale fairly within reach IF you can create compelling essays detailing what makes you unique, what you'll bring to the program, why you want the MBA, and why each particular school is right for you. I encourage you not to underestimate the power those essays can have in getting your story across and making the difference in a competitive admissions environment!

Overall the less-common background, the strong GMAT, the minority and female status all work well for you. Your GPA is the biggest weakness listed but the GMAT will help to balance that somewhat. You'll need to illustrate your work experience clearly and demonstrate accomplishments, results where possible, people and project management.

As someone who also has a background in the education/business area, I encourage you to give it a shot! Please let me know if you have other specific questions. Wishing you the best!
