Profile evaluation

by sanjolibatra Tue Nov 03, 2009 3:09 am

Hi,

I am Sanju for India. Could you please help me by evaluating my profile? I am 30 years old female and have recently taken GMAT and have scored 730 (Q-48, V-42, AWA 5.5). By the time I will join any school I will have 7 years of work experience. First three and a half years of this has been with the social sector organisations (NGOs) working with poor and marginalised communities in three states of India. From last three year I am working with largest private sector Bank in India. Work here mainly is new product development for the Bank to serve customers in Rural and agri space. Here I work on product for financial inclusion of the poor. I have done Post graduation in Rural Management from one of good B schools in India which is time and again rated No.1 in the niche school category by reputed publications in India.

Would be grateful if can give your comments on my profile and let me know would Top B schools be interested in taking me considering their stress on class diversity.

Sincerely,
mbamission

Hello Sanju,

Thank you for your inquiry. You seem to have an interesting profile based on your work experience, graduate education and GMAT score. However, I am not sure if I have enough information about you to provide a thorough evaluation of your profile. For instance, I don’t know your grades from college and your graduate program. I also don’t have a clear picture of how you have contributed in your professional experiences. Business schools are looking for people with a track record of leadership and accomplishment (this does not necessarily translate to important job titles) and while I am inclined to believe that you have it, I just don’t have a sense of what you’ve done in regard to leading teams or initiatives or making a lasting impact on the organizations with which you’ve worked. I also don’t know what your professional goals are, which would be helpful to me.

In terms of suggesting schools for you to consider, I’d argue that there are most business schools are interested in increasing the diversity of their student bodies. I would encourage you to base your decision on which schools to apply to based on a number of factors which are very personal in nature, including location, size of the class, alumni community and teaching methodology in addition to the school’s professional specializations. You also have to determine which schools you will be competitive for, which is based on your experiences and grades. If you have no idea where to begin, I recommend looking at the concise school profiles, put together by publications like BusinessWeek or U.S. News and World Report.

Sincerely,

Akiba Smith-Francis
