by kartik1979 Fri Jan 01, 2010 4:15 pm

hi

I gave my gmat in december and scored a 630 (q41,v35)

i am confused with regards to which schools can my score be competitve enough

Profile

30Male/Indian
I have done by Bachelors and masters in Economics ( GPA around 3.2)
I have around 5 years workex with a Bank (First Job) (Profile is a mixture of sales + Financial knowledge)
Been awarded certficate for outstanding performance by the bank
I have done some projects for NGO'S which have been succesfully implemented in between

I am re -considering whether i should give my gmat again and raise my score to near 700 to have a fighting change in top 20-25 schools?

pls advice

Thanks for your question!

I recommend that you review the websites of the schools that you are interested in and compare your GMAT/GPA to the schools' average GMAT and GPAs. The combination of the low GMAT and GPA will be a weakness in your application. Of course, they are only one piece of the puzzle, but improving your score should be at the top of your priority list.

With that said, you do have finance/banking experience which you can use to differentiate yourself from the male/Indian/technologist applicant pool. But it will be important to demonstrate leadership in your roles. Bringing your impact to life through your essays can be a great way to compensate for lower scores. You might also consider taking a course to demonstrate your quantitative abilities (i.e. Calculus or Statistics) if you cannot improve the GMAT score.

Best of luck with the application process.
