Profile Evalulation Please

by varsh150783 Sat Oct 13, 2012 4:00 am

Hello,
I would appreciate your input on my profile , my profile is as follows:

GMAT: 680 (Q50 V32), AWA (6.0)
Undergraduate Education : Mechanical Engineering, Top University in Asia
GPA: 2.5
Postgraduate Education : Mechanical Engineering, Top University in Asia, Gold Medalist
GPA: 3.95

Nationality: Indian
Age: 28

Work Experience: 7 years at matriculation (hopefully applying for Fall 2013) in new product introduction roles.
Current Work: GE Water Thailand. Involved in developing new products in the Water industry and government related projects in different sectors.

Job: I am a technical Lead at GE Water heading global team of experts. I manage phD holding scientists and engineers.

Extra Curriculars: I was the captain of my university cricket team. I head several green initiatives in GE. I am business development officer in another NGO. I was on management committee of the school council. I play professional cricket as vice-captain in the Malaysian League. Loads of ECA's when I was in university (guess why my UG GPA stinks :) )

Int'l Experience: Worked in Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore and United States.

Planning to work after MBA in product management preferrably in the Energy Sector and want to get an MBA from Top US business school.

Kindly suggest good top MBA schools where I would have a good shot!

Hello,

Thanks for sharing your profile. Let's break it down:

Academics: Probably your weakest area. 680 GMAT, strong quant, low verbal + a very low undergrad GPA. Luckily your Masters GPA is much stronger. I would suggest that you write an optional statement regarding your undergrad GPA, taking responsibility for your lack of focus on your studies, etc. Hopefully they can overlook it!

Professional Experience: It's quite interesting. Though you are in a technical role, it sounds like you have very strong leadership experience and the projects you are working on are very unique. Needless to say, GE is an excellent company to have on your resume. I think your work experience will help you stand out.

Extracurricular and Community: Seems like you have a lot of current and past experiences to draw from, which is great. This will also help differentiate you.

It's not going to be easy to overcome your GMAT/GPA, but I think you might pick one reach program like UC Berkeley to apply to. Outside of that, I'd look at UT Austin and Duke for sure.

Hope this helps!
Mili
