pronouns placed before nouns

by aflaamM589 Mon May 23, 2016 10:09 am

Hello Ron,

his attempt to break the world record was thwarted when he was injured.--> he/his refer to same person

his attempt to break the world record was thwarted when Joe was injured.--> his is not referring to Joe

Joe's attempt to break the world record was thwarted when he was injured.-->he cannot refer to Joe's

Is my understanding correct?
Thank you
Thank you very much
