Hi,
I am a student using the Self-Guided study course as I needed to submit a score to a program within a five-week timeline. My initial untimed Manhattan CAT score was 650 (Q 41, 54%; V 37, 81%). I studied quite diligently for 5 weeks, working through the strategy guides and always capping off with OG problems. On other practice tests (timed), I received anywhere from 60 to 66th percentile on Math. On the GMAT Prep test I took right before the exam I got a 700, with Q 44, 66% and V 41, 92%.
Today, I took the official exam, and got a 670. (Q 39, 48%, and V 42, 96%) I am quite disappointed as the quant score is much lower than I got for quant on any practice test. That said, I was feeling very confident during verbal. I felt like I was guessing so often for quant and everything looked so complex! I never fully felt at ease with what I was doing despite all of my practice.
I am ready to "start from scratch" with quant and have a solid four to five months to study. Any practice test I ever took I have gotten over 90th percentile for verbal so I have no concern about that (I scored 800 on SAT verbal on the first try so I feel good about verbal on standardized tests).
How can I study *just* quant systematically to make sure I don't crumble like this again during the exam? Given the timeframe and my heavily imbalanced quant score, are there any suggestions for a "quant-only" timing and study strategy? E.g., FDP Week 1, Geometry Week 2? What is the amount of time needed to really build and focus on these skills, and how do I organize my time? I am totally willing to start (again!) with Foundations of Math.
(on the flipside, if an instructor is also willing to answer a verbal question on a math forum - how can I get to 99% verbal? are there any good sets for practice or challenge at the 700-800 level for verbal? thank you!)
Thank you!
