QUESTION BANK DOUBT FDP

by v-86 Mon Dec 30, 2013 9:58 am

Below is a question from FDP online bank, I had a hard time understanding the solution :

A small pool filled only with water will require an additional 300 gallons of water in order to be filled to 80% of its capacity. If pumping in these additional 300 gallons of water will increase the amount of water in the pool by 30%, what is the total capacity of the pool in gallons?

SOLUTION GIVEN :
To determine the total capacity of the pool, we need to first determine the amount of water in the pool before the additional water is added. Let's call this amount b.

Adding 300 gallons represents a 30% increase over the original amount of water in the pool. Thus, 300 = 0.30b.

As per my knowledge, Icrease of 30% should mean 1.30b=300....as it depicts an increase of 30%.....Please explain why it is shown .30b=300
