Questions about Comparison

by KathyL227 Mon May 30, 2016 5:46 am

Hi Ron,

I have two questions about comparison:

1) Is the following sentence correct:

“The public favor plan A as strong as Plan B.”

Can it express:
“The public favor plan A as strong as (the public favor) plan B. “

2) are the two sences below equal to each other?
Patients who go to gym regularly are less likely to die of a heart attack than those who never exercise
=
Patients who go to gym regularly are less likely than those who never exercise to die of a heart attack
?

Thanks in advance.

sure, that's the only possible meaning. (what other meaning could it express?)

there are two errors:

• in US English, "the public" is singular. (you won't be tested on this, since it's plural in some countries. if this is actually an issue in a SC sentence, the sentence will contain some form of proof that it's singular.)

• "strong" would have to be "strongly".
