RC Online Bank Q18. SC error in answer explanation?

by ncarbayo Tue Aug 28, 2012 10:02 am

Hi,

In the answer explanation for this question I read:

This paragraph begins with the topic sentence "Few historians accept Augustus’s account of his political motivation," which suggests that the purpose of the paragraph is to undermine Augustus's account of his political motivation.

Is the word "which" used correctly in this sentence? I would say that "which" is actually modifying "his political motivation", rather than the whole clause. Shouldn't it say?:

This paragraph begins with the topic sentence "Few historians accept Augustus’s account of his political motivation", suggesting that the purpose of the paragraph is to undermine Augustus's account of his political motivation.

Many thanks.

the GMAT is notorious for violating its own SC rules when giving explanations for problems. good catch, but ultimately irrelevant to your studying beyond the practice in identifying mistakes when you see them..
