'The statistics from the study reveal[s] that the United States is plagued by poor health.'
Initially I thought that the word 'statistics' is singular, since we can refer to it as scientifical discipline, as in 'Statistics is an art'.
But after checking the answer, it turned out that in the FoV example 'statictics' is plural.
Does it mean that we have to distinguish between 'statistics' referring to a quantity (in which case the word can be plural) and 'statistics' referring to as discipline (when it can be only singular) and make subject and verb agree accordingly?
Are there any other similar tricky words like that?
