SANAM- Query

by MihirSahu Tue Jul 15, 2008 1:56 am

Is None of my friends - have- correct or None of my friends - has - correct...
As for SANAM None of my friends have should be correct...but I read it otherwise somewhere else...
Please confirm...as it is shattering my understanding about SANAM as per the book.

"None of my friends have....." is correct. The object of the preposition is the plural "friends" so the plural verb is required.

The SANAM pronouns (some, any, none, all, more/most) take on the number of the object of the pronoun, usually the of-phrase. In other words, the of-phrase is not middlemen; it's what determines the number of the subject.

For "None of my friends ... ", since friends is plural, we should use a plural verb.
