SC: Cannon Shooting dead chickens

by amitdotvashishtha Wed May 30, 2012 3:12 pm

Hi,

Kindly explain why option (a) is not correct in following question:

55. According to United States Air Force officials, a cannon shooting dead chickens at airplanes has proved helpful to demonstrate what kind of damage can result when jets fly into a flock of large birds.
(A) shooting dead chickens at airplanes has proved helpful to demonstrate
(B) shooting dead chickens at airplanes has proved itself helpful as a demonstrationP of
(C) shooting dead chickens at airplanes proves itself helpful as demonstrating
(D) that shoots dead chickens at airplanes proves itself helpful to demonstrate
(E) that shoots dead chickens at airplanes has proved helpful in demonstrating

OA is (e).

Option (e) seems correct in sense that "cannon" was useful in demonstrating (mocking up) the extent of damage to jet due to large birds.. I marked (a) as answer as I thought that it was "the dead chickens shot from cannon" that actually was useful in demonstranting the damage.

As per the forum rules, we need a verifiable source for the problem before we can deal with this question. If the question is not one of ours or one that is copyright-free, we will have to delete the question..

Hi Tim,

I came across this question on a GMAT forum. Since I wasn't convinced with the explanation provided on the forum, I posted this question here.

Hey I found this question in the 1000SC pdf and was coping with the same dilemma between A and E. Can somebody please explain the difference between A and E.

Not only is this source not legal to discuss here, but I make it a point to caution all students in the strongest possible terms NEVER to use this source. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE delete that file from your computer and do not ever look at it again!!!!! I cannot begin to describe the damage some of those questions can do to your GMAT performance!

LOL I'm glad you've come to the same conclusion before it did too much damage! :)
