SC doubt about parallelism

by reachdeepaky Mon Jul 05, 2010 3:56 am

In the parallelism (Advanced) chapter of SC guide, it has been explained that Concrete nouns and actions nouns cant be made parallel.

Here is an example which is not mentoned is SC guide
WRONG: The new toy was the father’s trying to appease the ruffled child
RIGHT: The new toy was the father’s attempt to appease the ruffled child.

explaination:
X was Y... Was is the linking verb. Here X is the toy (noun) so Y should also be noun (attempt)

My question is "toy" is concrete noun and is made parallel to action noun "attempt". This should be wrong according to SC guide.

Please explain.

Okay? i'm not really sure what the question is here. You've identified a rule and given a concrete example of a sentence that is wrong according to the rule. Good job..
