SC Flashcard : NO 52

by aps_asks Mon Jan 30, 2012 2:37 pm

Question :
The ubiquity of the personal music player
since the start of the millennium provides
users with a distraction on long commutes
and can now hold thousands of songs.

Answer :

This question is about subject-verb agreement. The subject
"ubiquity" and the verb "provides" are both singular, so the pair
matches in number. However, a subject-verb pair must also be
logical. It is the personal music player, not the ubiquity, that
"provides users with a distraction on long commutes and can now
hold thousands of songs."

The personal music player, ubiquitous since the
start of the millennium,
provides users with a distraction on long
commutes and can now hold thousands of songs.

My Question :

I think there is a parallelism conflict here for the parallel marker and ==> between provides and can now hold

you should treat those three words as a single verb, so whether that makes it a verb phrase i suppose depends on the definition of a verb phrase.. :)
