Martin's routine includes reading the daily newspaper and going to the gym .
Martin's daily routine includes reading the newspaper

Now the question is which is correct version the underlined or the bold faced . The issue I have is DAILY and ROUTINE mean the same thing are they not redundant , if so how can either of the versions be correct .

Can any one please explain.

I don't think "daily routine" is redundant. You can have routines that occur daily, weekly, hourly, annually.

The first sentence states that the routine is to read the newspaper -- the daily newspaper (as opposed to the ones that come out over other periods of time). However, this routine might not be daily; it might be his weekly Saturday routine.

The second sentence states that the ROUTINE is daily: this is what he does every day. However, there is no mention that the newspaper is daily.

So both sentences are grammatically correct, but they have different meanings. If the first is the intended meaning, then the second one is incorrect because it changes the meaning.

Hope that helps.
