SC question, Source: Winningprep verbal part test

by mr.manpreet Fri Nov 18, 2011 1:13 am

Q Ferns are over a million years older in age to flowering plants.

- older in age to flowering plants.
- older in age than other flowering plants. (your response)
- old in age like flowering plants.
- older in age than flowering plants. (correct answer)
- older in age in comparison to flowering plants.

My response was B, but the OA is D..

I want to understand the difference between the two comparisons, though I was able to eliminate rest of the options very easily.

The word "other" implies that ferns are flowering plants; they are not.

Correct; if there is any doubt here, stick to the original meaning of the sentence. The original meaning clearly indicates that ferns are different from flowering plants.
