SC question

by vikas.tarachandani Sat Jul 07, 2012 11:57 pm

Ravi sought to have his marriage to Sita annulled to be married to Rashmi.

Can anyone help me out to understand why this statement is incorrect, especially the undelined part...?

Source - Based on OG 10 problem... I want to know whether using 'to be married to' is correct or not...

I hope asking for concepts does not violate the terms of IPR....

Another question:

Minnesota is the only one of the contigous forty-eight states where there is still sizable population of wolves and where this predator remains the archenemy of cattle and sheep.

OG 10 says that this is a vaild statement. Although i marked this qn correct because all the other options were worse, but still i am skeptical about 'this predator'. Should not it be 'These predators' because the sentence talks about wolves (plural) not wolf (singular)?

and dont you think, where there is an awkward construction?

"to be married" expresses the intent of the annulment. As such, you should include some extra wording in order to make it clear. In fact, the wording you should use is the wording I just used in the previous sentence: "in order to ...". Also, "to be married" should be "to get married" or something else that doesn't indicate a constant state of being..

As Ron is fond of saying, don't question official answers! Official answers are always correct by definition, and your job is not to question that but rather to understand how they can be correct if you think there is a contradiction with rules you've learned. In this case, "this" technically refers to "predator", so there is no problem. As for the "awkward construction" issue, can you point to a rule in our SC strategy guide that says awkward constructions are wrong? Since you can't, :) you should avoid ever eliminating an answer choice based on the perception that it is awkward. Please note that although the OG uses "awkward and wordy" as a frequent excuse for eliminating an answer choice, this is NEVER the real reason the answer is wrong; there is ALWAYS something other than "awkward and wordy" that makes the choice wrong..
