as for the thing you're asking about, (a) yes, it's a little weird, and (b) GMAC has not used such a construction before.

however, as usual, that part is just there to distract you from much easier means of elimination.
if you don't get hung up on that small bit, you should find it straightforward to eliminate the four wrong answers by other, MUCH more basic, means.
