IMO answer is D.
A and C out bcoz modifier 'Famed for using irony in a masterful way' is modifying stories which is incorrect.
E follows them for same modifier issue.
Between B and D, I went for D as B seemed bit awkward to me.

Can anyone give proper reason to choose the correct option between B and D?

This is from the Manhattan question banks. I just saw this question and not following their explaination. They say that for choice E, 'he' has no antecedent. Isn't Guy the antecedent?

Many of Guy de Maupassant's short stories Can't be the antecedent of HE.

Just keep in mind if you have a possessive noun, then you have to use a possessive pronoun to refer to it.

Here only option D makes sense.

Along with the pronoun error in option E , is there also a tense error ("have become" and "revealed") ? Was wondering if simple past ( revealed) works fine here , cos this is a general observation made about the author and his books. So I thought present tense makes sense.

I think 'revealed' is fine here. Another big mistake option E makes is it changes the intended meaning of the sentence.

It is not stated by GMAC and in the latest edition of Manhattan SC Guide, it is mentioned that it is not necessary that a possesive noun be referred by a possesive pronoun.

Could you please help me understand that in this case he can't refer to Guy de Maupassant as it is part of a prepositional phrase: many of Guy de Maupassant's short stories
