Sentence Correction: Comparison

I want to make sure I understand the usage of as...as in comparisons. I have listed below the sentence which I think are correct and the others I believe are ambiguous. Please correct me If I'm wrong.

Correct. Jim has as many cars as trucks. Here the comparison is between the number of cars and the number of trucks that Jim owns.

Incorrect. Jim has as many cars as Tom. Here the comparison is illogically between number of cars and Tom. The sentence will make more sense if "has" follows Tom.[

i wouldn't eliminate either of these initially on the GMAT, because the meaning is clear in both and both can be seen as parallel if interpreted in the right context..
