Sentence correction - equivalent

Low ability tutors produced tutee gains at least equivalent to those produced by high ability tutors

Is this sentence correctly shows comparision?

I am confused as "those" is conflicting with gains. and also wondering how can we construct this one using the elipse method as that is more common on GMAT.

I'm not sure what you mean by "conflicts." The word "gains" here is a noun, not a verb - perhaps that's the confusion? As a result, "those" is just the "new copy" of the word "gains." In other words, it's a pronoun referring to that word.
