sentence correction for help

The clothes inside the store looked more appealing than did those on the racks outside.

In the sentence above,why is the position of "did" prior to the subject "those".I think the subject "those" should be prior to the verb "did". For example:I like cheese more than Lily does.

typically we put the verb in front of the subject in this sort of comparison. this is true even for your cheese example..

DO you mean I can put the verb befor or after the subject in this sort of comparison?If not,when before and when after?

what i mean is that the verb is TYPICALLY in front of the noun. you put it in front of the noun when that's what the answer choice offers you, and you put the noun in front of the verb when the answer choice offers that. in other words, because the GMAT has NEVER tested that particular word order to my knowledge, you should consider EITHER one correct..
