Sentence correction query

by pravin22jd Tue Jul 30, 2013 3:34 am

While working on modifier problem set I came across below question
Q#3 in Problem set.
A recent formed militia, consisting of lightly armed peasant and a few retired army officers, is fighting a bitterly civil war against government forces.

recent: incorrect, it should be recently
Lightly: correct
retried: correct
bitterly: incorrect ( I got it fine, but while correcting it I corrected is as below:
is bitterly fighting a civil war against government forces...
but official answer is
is fighting a bitter civil war against government forces...

Could you please let me know if the correction I did is fine or not ? if not then what is the problem with it...

Thanks
Thanks
Pravin

you're not supposed to move the underlined part to a different place.

(your correction is fine from a purely grammatical standpoint, but its meaning doesn't really make sense -- it's the war that is bitter, not the way in which people are fighting.)

You're welcome. (four and a half months later ... interesting)

By the way -- if this is from an MGMAT problem set, it doesn't belong in this folder.
