Sentence or not?

by djaytg Thu Jan 17, 2013 11:16 am

Independent Clause, BUT in attributing.........

i have the silliest doubt
can the underlined part form an independent clause?
As a conjunction is used, in attributing.. acts as a modifier and does not stand on its own, hence i can eliminate answer with this type of construction?

In case you are referring to OG 12 Q#79, the sentence is wrong because of misplaced modifier not because it don't have independent clause. The sentence has independent clause so I think we can't assume what you are saying.

Can you give me examples where

Independent Clause, BUT in attributing.........
FORMS A SENTENCE

Independent Clause, BUT in attributing.........
DOES NOT FORM A SENTENCE

[deleted because problem is from a banned source - see below] (OG 12 Q#79)

This is a complete sentence if you ignore misplaced modifier error, so I believe we can create such sentences.

Can you provide two simple sentences where one works and other doesn't ?
Thanks

I am not sure whether I will be able to construct an example. But 'In attributing x to y' is an idiomatic expression. BTW, lets wait for experts' comments.

OG is a banned source; it is illegal to post OG questions anywhere on the web. If you are in one of our classes, please ask OG questions during office hours or before/after class..

Willy gave you an example that works. If you take your own example and just end the sentences before the "........", you'll have a SUPER simple example that doesn't work as a complete sentence. Please let us know if you need any further help on this one..
