Should i Retake Gmat for these target schools

by targetgmat123 Wed Jul 10, 2013 1:46 am

I gave my Gmat today..got 660
Q51 V 27

Please suggest me some schools for 2/1 year full time MBA in Finance.

My profile:
7.13/10 CGPA
Working as a electrical design engineer in a design consultancy from past 2 years. Will be applying for next year session with 3 years work ex.
10th 81
12th 82
Extracurriculars- Average

It is not like i did not study well but i got exhausted in the exam by the time i came to verbal and just wanted to finish the test. I never got as high as 51 in quant in any of my mock tests but at the same time i also never got as low as 27 in verbal in any of the mock tests. So do you think by increasing my stamina i might score well?
Also my profile is average with just 3 years of work exp by the time i start my mba next year. So do you think i am competitive with this score in these b schools?
I have one more query that most of the b schools R1 will start in mid oct. So right now i have full one month. So why don't give it a another shot. But this is also true that i am never going to apply to top 15 b schools even if i get 750 as they are very expensive and to get a scholarship i have to be very competitive and for that i need to concentrate on tier 2 or 3 b schools with good gmat score.
Please advice me how to move forward...
Right now i am looking towards 20-40 rank b schools such as Schulich, Mcgill, University of British Columbia, University of Alberta, Thunderbird, NUS, Michigan State Board, Erasmus(RSM), ESADE, HEC Montreal, Wake Forest, Emory, Rice, Rochester Simon, SMU Cox, Georgetown McDonough, Boston College.
Also please suggest me some better b schools than these for this kind of profile.
How Good i stand?? Should i Retake GMAT??
These are the things that are confusing me and not letting me sleep.

Hi there,

Great job on the quant side of the GMAT, and yes I believe if you 'build up your stamina' and truly prepare for the exam, you could bring up the verbal as well, so you may want to consider that. I recommend taking multiple FULL-LENGTH timed adaptive practice tests as the only way to truly prepare you fully for the actual test is to take realistic practice tests that mimic the same conditions. And then it's great to study from those practice tests and learn from your mistakes.

It sounds good to aim for schools outside the top 20 or so, yes. Beyond that, it really depends on what you are looking for in a program-- such as region, class size and profile, teaching philosophy, hiring profiles, etc. I suggest reviewing our free e-book on selecting schools for more factors to consider and doing a lot of research. http://info.mbamission.com/Selecting-Yo ... ram-E-Book

Wishing you the best in the process!
