Should I say that I got help in my eassys? or no!!

by mosstashar1 Fri Dec 18, 2009 9:22 am

Hi,

I'm an international student, my writing skills is not that good. I got 3.5 in AWA in first test, and I will retake the test again and I don't think i can score more than 4.5.

There problem is that I got help when I wrote my essays for the business schools. The idea and the out line are my idea but I give it to some one to write them in correct way.

It will be obvious that I got help in the essays if some one look at my AWA essays and compare them to the application's essays.

Should I mention that I got help in writing the essays or not? Please help I'm kind of don't know what to do with that.

btw, I'm NOT planing to apply for one of the top 3o schools ..

Thank you,
Mosst

Hi Mosst -

I'm not quite sure where in the application you would say that you got help on your essays, but I would advise against it. The schools will probably be able to figure it out anyway.

There is a big difference between an editing service (writing your essays yourself and having a professional offer suggestions on phrasing, positioning, grammar over multiple drafts that you work on) and what it sounds like you did - providing someone else high level thoughts and having them write it. The former is a legitimate practice that the business schools all know takes place. The latter is, I believe, a breach of ethics. Please look very carefully at the Statement of Integrity (schools may call it different things) that you're asked to sign when you submit your application to be sure that you are comfortable doing so.
