Similar to vs like

by qianruS779 Mon Aug 10, 2015 8:19 pm

Hi Instructors,

I would like to ask you a question about the usage of similar to vs like in comparison.

1) Like Alex, I study Spanish
2) Similar to Alex, I study Spanish

Comparing 1) with 2), Why does GMAC consider 2) an imprecise form of comparison?

3) I am similar to Alex in studying Spanish
Is there some difference or preference between 2) and 3)?

Thank you very much in advance

Best regards.

DO NOT post the same question more than once.
you've posted this particular question at least three different times. if you do this, then we may restrict or disable your ability to post on the forum.
(...or, worse yet, our automated spam-detection software might mistake the repeated posts for spam, and delete your account altogether!)

thank you.
