Is the usage of "so as to be" frowned upon in GMAT english?

in at least one place, the OG answer keys have declared that construction off limits. see this thread for more specifics.

i don't personally have a problem with that construction, but i, unfortunately for test takers everywhere, am not one of the gmat writers.
