Ron sir, i have read through this thread, but i still cannot figure out why choice "C" is wrong.
I could not decide between "E" and "C", when i was doing this question.
could you explain ?

Thanks, Sir.

choice C puts "performance" and "preparation" in parallel.
the result is a sentence saying that this facility is meant to enhance performance and enhance preparation.

that's the wrong meaning.
the facility is geared toward enhancing performance ... and also toward preparing the athletes.
in other words, the facility DIRECTLY "prepares" the athletes. it doesn't just "enhance their preparation". this should be clear in context.

"geared to..." is also unidiomatic.

thanks, Sir, now, i see what the sentence exactly mean.
but i still feel the difference in the meanings of the two interpretations is substle.

that's a pretty significant difference -- and, more importantly, it's highlighted by comparing the answer choices to one another.

if you are just considering the answer choices individually, then, yes, this would be a very subtle thing to think about.
but... you're not.
if you compare those choices against each other, you can IMMEDIATELY notice that difference in meaning, and then think about it.

don't forget that this is a multiple-choice test!
