Strategy to get past 40 in Verbal

by arnav.m9 Wed Jun 17, 2009 11:32 am

I scored 39/38 on Prep1/2 respectively and scored 36 on the actual test. Here is my count of mistakes

Prep 1: SC -5 CR-4 RC -1 (total 10)

Prep 2: SC -5 CR-4 RC -2 (total 11)

As you may see, I can cover quite some ground in both SC and CR. I thought that I would get atleast 38 on the test. I fell short by 2. I might have missed by a question or two. But I would like to find out what kind of SC/CR questions actually bother me.

I blew away the prep software and reinstalled to take it more than once. How ever, I can comb through them and find out which I got wrong. Do you think that such diagnosis will help identify my weaknesses in SC and CR?

Are you planning for a retake, if yes try using the GMAT GRID ,it might help you to zero in on what your problem is, such as modified or assumption etc...

Keep in mind that it is not the number of questions that you get right/wrong that affects your final score. Instead, it is the difficulty of those questions. Yes, you want to get a sense of your main areas of weakness on SC/CR. However, you also want to be particularly concerned about any low-level questions you might have missed, regardless of topic.

Have you taken one of our practice CATs? It will give you a sense of the difficulty level of the questions you've missed.
