A recent study of ancient clay deposits has provided new evidence supporting the theory of global forest fires ignited by a meteorite impact that contributed to the extinction of the dinosaurs and many other creatures some 65 million years ago.

Can someone explain why options A and D are wrong; someone please help!

I will give it a try

A. A seems to indicate that theory contributed to the extinction and not fire
.. clay deposits has provided new evidence supporting the theory ....that contributed to the extinction
B. This seems to be the right option
C. Unnecessary usage of that.. Also first that does not seem to be proper parallelism
that were ignited by a......and that
D Not parallel usage of that
E."evidence of support" does not seem to be right. Also meaning problem as in A
