Subjunctive or Not

by rakesh.id Tue Sep 04, 2012 4:50 am

Which of the following two sentences is correct and why? Is it a case of subjunctive mood? If yes, then I guess B should be correct.

A. Let us hope that the budget we submitted is approved in tomorrow's meeting.

B. Let us hope that the budget we submitted be approved in tomorrow's meeting.

Thanks!

neither of these is appropriate. you don't want the subjunctive, and you also don't want the present tense.
this should appear in the future tense: we hope that the budget will be...

this sort of subjunctive is limited to ...
... commands (the boss mandated that we be at work an hour earlier tomorrow)
... requests (the boss asked that we be at work an hour earlier tomorrow)
... statements of importance (it is important that we be at work an hour earlier tomorrow)

this sentence isn't any of these, so use a normal tense.
